If your current permis d’exploitation is about to expire, French law requires you to attend a 7-hour renewal training course.
This renewal course is mandatory for bar, restaurant, nightclub, and hospitality managers who already hold a valid licence that is reaching its 10-year expiration date.

The permis d’exploitation is valid for 10 years.
Before its expiration date, you must complete a 7-hour renewal training to extend its validity for another 10 years.
Without renewal, you cannot legally continue serving alcohol.

If your permis d’exploitation expires, you are no longer authorised to sell or serve alcoholic beverages.
You do not have to close your restaurant or bar entirely. However, you must immediately stop selling alcohol until you complete the renewal training and obtain your new certificate.
To avoid interruption in alcohol sales, it is strongly recommended to attend the renewal course before the expiration date.
The course extends throughout a full 7 hours day: a morning session from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and an afternoon session from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The renewal course lasts 7 hours (1 day). It focuses on regulatory updates and reinforces your legal responsibilities as an operator.
You need the renewal course if:
You already obtained your permis d’exploitation 10 years ago
Your certificate has an upcoming expiration date
If you have never completed the 20-hour initial training, you must register for the initial permis d'exploitation course in english.
Yes, you can still attend the renewal training after the expiration date.
However, you are not legally allowed to serve alcohol between the expiration date and the completion of your renewal course.
For this reason, we recommend booking your session in advance.

Once you complete the renewal course, your new permis d’exploitation is valid for 10 years throughout France, including mainland France and overseas territories.
